Southern Cyprus to ask EU for help

The President of Southern Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadisspeaking at the Conference “Maritime Cyprus” 2013 asked the International Maritime Organization and theEuropean Commission to make an impact on Turkey to withdraw Turkish maritime embargo.
In response, the representative of the European Commissionsaid that as long as Ankara does not remove all restrictions on the movement of sea and air vehicles of the Republic of Cyprus, no negotiations on its accession to the EU will not be started.
He recalled that Turkey, as a candidate for accession to the EU in 2005 signed a protocol according to which all trade restrictions for all EU members must be cleared of, but so far this has not been done.
